Songs for American Sports: Part 1

American sports are undoubtedly contain some of the greatest fan bases in world.  Where else can you find a horde of obese, undereducated people sprint 100 yards to get autographs from an 18 year old.  Or Grown men dress up as a lightning bolt to address the City council.  Or spend every Sunday of your life, during the best weather period of your year, for 63 years,  tuning in to watch the Browns go 5-11 or worse and finish 4th in your own division every year.  Our Fandom is Paramount.   However, International soccer holds one thing far and away above us on the cool factor and that is songs and chants.  Teams have dedicated songs, or chants for individual players.  The best thing we have are fight songs written before WWI and “Gangham Style” during a TV Timeout

Music SHOULD be integral from both the fans and stadium.  When a great player makes a great play the PA should blare certain tunes or the fans should be on command to break into song.  Since it feels trite to write a song, ala “You’ll never walk alone” about the Utah Jazz the answer is to utilize songs people already know and work those to your advantage or repurpose them for teams/players.  Here are some examples that should be adopted immediately

Baltimore Ravens-  “Ms. Jackson”- Outkast  – a simple breakout of the chorus by fans “I’m sorry Ms. Jackon, WOO, I am FOR REAL” and the piano keys over the PA whenever Lamar breaks off a 20 Yard gain would be electric

Denver Nuggets – “The Joker”  Steve Miller Band-  Jokic throws a behind the head pass to a cutting Aaron Gordan – “I’m a Joker, I’m a smoker, I’m a MIIIIIIDDNIGGHT Toker”  plays perfectly in the Mile High City

Miami Heat – “There Goes my Hero” Foo Fighters – Tyler Herro hits back to back Triples – “There goesss my hero watch him as he goes”

Any Team about to win a close out game of a series – “This Ends Tonight”  -All American Rejects – Probably lesser known by the public but easy to catch on.  Someone scores to go up big or hits a clinching play and this “When darkness turns to light…..This ends tonight!” Just don’t be the guy who starts this one too early…….

Scotty Schefler – “Scotty Doesn’ Know”  Lustra (Eurotrip Soundtrack)-  This will obviously never happen except maybe in Phoenix but a Gallery just belting out this song in a “gentlemanly venue” would be incredible.  Could sub in Scottie Barnes who genuinely may not know.

Clevland Brown– “500 Miles” -The Proclaimers – Different sections of First Energy Stadium hitting the “Da Da DA Da” after a Myles Garrett sack on Joe Burrow
